Who: Eric and Sookie
What: After finally turning back into his normal self, he wants to find out if Sookie is really in the house.
When: Monday evening, just after sunset
Where: Second Floor Hallway (Outside Sookie's Room)
Status: COMPLETE
Warnings: Swearing, maybe?

When Eric forced himself awake, it was the late afternoon. The sun had almost nearly set, the sky filled with an array of colors signifying the end of the day, and he knew that it would be nightfall before the bleeds set in. The last two nights felt almost like a dream he barely remembered - he had felt like he was almost watching it from afar, and looking back on it now he couldn't distinctly remember anything past the first few sentences of a conversation with Sookie Stackhouse.

Wait, Sookie Stackhouse? Had that been real?

For every day of his very long unlife, Eric had nearly perfect memory. This sort of amnesia was unusual for him, but he couldn't be certain that the events of the past few days were a reality. After all, it wasn't very often that he was changed into the form of his maker, and then forced into his ways of thinking before being overtaken by another's will completely. Had it been anyone else, he would have fought tooth and nail to retain his mind. However, to allow Godric to reclaim life, even at the cost of his own...it had seemed worthwhile.

Still, back to his old self, Eric couldn't help but feel relieved that the transition had only been temporary. Now, if only he could remember.

Still, if what he recalled was correct, Sookie was in the hosue. An uncomfortable feeling that he couldn't quite place settled in his chest as he moved from his room and into the hallway. Eric felt the impulsive need to look for her, though he couldn't decide if he just needed to know if he was right or if he simply wanted to see her. He took great care to avoid the last dying rays of light that splashed through the small windows as he searched each floor, moving steadily downwards. He was begining to doubt himself for the first time in centuries when saw her in a hallway on the second floor. She was turned away from him, but he would have recognized those curves anywhere.

"Sookie," he said, awaiting her reaction. Whatever it might be.

Eric opened his mouth for a moment to answer, before closing it, and intense feeling clenching in his gut. He never understood human women - they always wanted an explanation for everything. Did she not realize how different she was from the rest of them? (And he wasn't just thinking of her telepathy or her blood.)

"You make me feel things that I have not felt in a long time, and then haven't judged me for feeling them," he started. "You have a courage that I have not seen in a human in a very long time. You continue to surprise me, no matter how much I think I know you." He paused for a moment, looking away. "You stayed with Godric when I could not." Eric looked back over at her. "And you are beautiful, of course."

He raised a brow at her, waiting for a response. "Is that adequate?"

"In a vampire much younger than myself, yes." Bill certainly fell into the category. "I never need as much blood as he would in regards to healing injuries. Nor do I lose myself as fully to the bloodlust. Such things come with practice, and he has lived his life avoiding human blood as much as possible."

"Indeed," he replied with a nod. Eric was lucky he had chosen Rose to be the first keeper of his secret. With luck, he wouldn't have to keep it a secret much longer. "I must admit, I am hungry," he admitted, shrugging his shoulders. "I've gone longer in the past, though, and I don't have wounds to heal. Unfortunately, it appears my compulsion abilities don't work here, otherwise yes, I would have found someone 'willing.' It is not my general practice to go this long."

She took a step towards him, and his eyes widened as Sookie offered her blood to him. It was true that he'd had it before, most recently after being pulled out of the sun outside Fangtasia, but his life had been in danger. "Are you sure?" His fangs slid out slightly at the thought of her blood on his tongue.

Sookie titled her head down to hide the small blush that started to form. She was not expecting him to say some of the things that he did. "No good ever came out of judging people." Sookie knew that very well; all her life, people judged her and thought she was crazy because of her abilities. "Also shouldn’t care what others might think. There are a lot of stupid people in this world."

"That was more then adequate," she smiled and looked up at him. Eric being so straight forward with her was a bit surprising, but in a nice way. Of course she had those dreams from drinking his blood and there was always a small part of her that wished they were reality, but she never actually thought him and her would talk like this.

Sookie listened to his explanation on needing the blood. “Just like my powers, over time it got easier to control them and tune people’s thoughts out.” It really was a nice thing when Sookie finally got them under control, it made her life a whole lot easier.

"No way?! They don’t work here? Are you sure? Don’t think you just didn’t do it on the right person? Not saying that I think you should, but I can’t help but wonder why it wouldn’t work on someone, thought I was the only one." Sooke was indeed interested in exploring that some more.

"Would much rather have you alive and not feeding off of someone else. Besides," she looked up at him with innocent eyes and a cute look placed upon her face, "if you aren’t at full strength you won’t be able to protect me."

"No, but I am a vampire. Many would judge me for my actions, especially anything towards a human. Most believe your kind to be only good for sustenance, and for the most part I have agreed. You are different." The way he said it was very matter-of-fact, just stating the facts. "I have to care what others think of me. I would not be a good sheriff if I didn't." The reason he had such loyal followers was because he knew what they thought of him, and it was mostly positive. One did not gain loyalty with negative behaviors. He was fair for a reason.

"Yes, control always comes with practice," he agreed. "You will continue to get stronger, of that I am positive."

Eric shook his head. "It wasn't a matter of the ability working. I have had my compulsion fail before, and it still activated, it just had no effect. In this case, if I tried, there would be nothing there. It is rather...debilitating." He didn't know why he was telling her all of this. Did he really trust her so?

Eric's mouth curled up into a smirk, taking a step forward, their bodies nearly touching. "You would like that? To be protected by me? For me to feed on you?" His fangs were fully out now, as he looked down at her, lust lacing his voice. "You know what that will do to me, do you not?"

"Glad you feel I’m different, but I wouldn’t consider the others just good for sustenance." She wanted to think there was more good in vampires then bad, but even she began to see the world for what it really was. To think how naive she once was; running out in the dark to save a vampire.

"So you don’t think this human was anything special? It just failed for some reason?" She was genuinely curious. "Do you think it would work on aliens? Still can’t believe there are people from outer space here," Sookie smiled with excitement. She was glad that he trusted her enough to open up to her.

"Yes, I would, is there anything wrong with that?" Sookie looked up at him almost as I she was in a trance as she became lost in his eyes. "I don’t care," she inched closer to him, "I just want you safe." In this moment, she really didn’t care anymore, just as long as he was ok. Despite the fact that she felt something for him, she always did view the safety of those she cared about higher then anything else.

"There is very little good I can say about the majority of humanity. In general, they are very naive, soft, and selfish. They disrespect each other at any opportunity," he said, shrugging his shoulders. "You should know this better than anyone," he added, tapping a finger to his temple knowingly.

Eric shook his head. "It's as if that ability never existed in the first place." Her excitement about aliens amused him, and he let out a soft chuckle. He wondered if she heard it. "Were you this excited during The Great Reveal?" he mused aloud. "There's plenty more out there than Vampires, Weres and Shifters."

He could feel the warmth radiating off of her human body as she drew closer, and he watched her with a sort of odd fascination. Eric hadn't thought that he would have gotten her to let him drink from her so soon, let alone have her offer first. He shuddered lightly, reigning himself in as his fangs retracted from view. "Not here," he said, his voice rough around the edges. "We can't risk being seen," he explained, searching her face for understanding.

"I can just as well say the same about vampires," she snapped back at him. It was true what he said, about humans, Sookie just wasn’t going to admit to that right now. She had seen both the good and bad in all sides of the creatures that made up the world. You couldn’t really judge someone by what they were.

"That doesn’t sound good at all," she shook her head. "What if this place did something with your powers? Could a place do that?" Of course she knew that Eric wouldn’t know that answer either. She wasn’t sure if she heard a chuckle from him or not. It was so soft and she was so wrapped up in her thoughts. "Sure was!" She smiled with excitement. "Isn’t it just so exciting! To think that there is something else out there. A whole lot out there. Bet you didn’t know about aliens and men living on spaceships."

Sookie didn’t think that she would ever allow him to drink from her again, let alone talk to him. But, sometimes things change and Sookie could only hope that this wasn’t a mistake.

"Yes, of course," she agreed and glanced down the hall. "My rooms right over there," she pointed to her door.

Eric smirked, enjoying her comeback. "Well, of course. But I trust about as many vampires as I do humans." He gave her a playful wink, knowing full well that this wasn't the time for jokes, but he simply couldn't help himself.

"I suppose it could. There is obviously magic to this place, and magic can do all sorts of things," he said, unable to give her a real concrete answer. "I know that my flying is hampered as well, there is something on all the locks that prevents them from being opened by anything other than a specific key." He'd tried to force one or two open - had they been normal doors, they would have broken. "And it has apparently cut off our bond, since I couldn't feel you in the house when you arrived."

Eric chuckled lightly again, shaking his head. "I thought it probable, but no. I had never met an alien nor a spaceman."

He walked smoothly to the door, assuming that no one would be inside (surely she would have mentioned that), and pushed the door open, holding it as she entered first before following the blonde inside. The vampire quietly shut the door behind them before turning back to her. "I'll let you pick where," he said, smirking again as he gave her a knowing and mischievous look.

"I did get some strange key, couldn’t figure out what it was for," she shrugged. "That doesn’t sound very good at all." She should be more then happy that their connection was cut off. She didn’t even really realize that it was because she was feeling the same for him as before – she even had a dream last night. Not that she would tell him that, especially now knowing that it may be real and not because of his blood inside her. "Are you sure about that? The connection being gone?" She didn’t want to make it obvious that she had a reason to ask. "Do you think that means my powers won’t work? That would be both a relief and a curse."

"Figured as much," Sookie said to his comment about never meeting an alien before.

She entered the room and began to feel a bit tense when he closed the door behind them. She motioned over to the bed, "don’t get any ideas," she gave him in all too knowing look. "Don’t really have any other choices." And, that’s what she told herself and that if they were someplace else with more then just beds and dressers she’d pick a different spot.

Sookie sat down on the bed and titled her head to the side, pushing her hair away to reveal her neck.

"I found a key in my desk as well," he said. "It fits no lock I have found thus far, but it must go somewhere."

"Yes, it's gone. Otherwise I would have known where you were when I came to find you," he said, his voice calm despite his inner irritation. "I would be able to feel your emotions, and yet I have no idea how you are feeling." After becoming used to their connection, sensing nothing was strange. "If you are willing, I'd prefer it if you took my blood, if only to test if it can be regained. It would be useful in order to keep track of you in the house. Of course, only if you do not find it repulsive." Eric said it as if it were a joke, if only not to sound as serious as he thought the situation was.

"I imagine they likely work, as most of mine do. Slightly dulled, but still functional. For instance, I can still fly, though somewhat poorly. And maddeningly slowly." His annoyance was perfectly obvious this time as he spoke, his eyes flashing.

He took a seat as instructed, giving her a flirtation look. "Of course, I will be a perfect gentleman." Eric inhaled the scent of her hair as he leaned towards her, his fangs extending as she brushed away her hair. "Trust me," he whispered as his arm slipped around her waist to steady her before his teeth broke the skin of her throat. He was experienced at this, and so he was as gentle as he was able. After all, she was doing him a favor. He wouldn't make it unpleasant for her.

Who knew, perhaps she might even like it. Eric had seen Bill's marks on her, after all.

"Well then, that’s something we should figure out," Sookie nodded. "Had to give us the keys for a reason."

Sookie kind of liked the idea of the bound not working, then she could sort out her feelings and figure out if there really was anything there. At the same time, she somewhat liked having that connection to him, and if she was to fall in some sort of danger while there, he’d be able to know right away. She wished she could get rid of the bound with Bill.

"I don’t know," she shook her head. "Like being able to just be me, you know, been so long with all these bounds between Bill and you." At one point, the thought of drinking Eric’s blood was repulsive, or maybe she just told herself that. Now she was finding that she wanted to, despite every inch of herself screaming that it is wrong.

At first there was the slight bit of hesitation still looming inside of her, but the moment he told her to trust him, it was hard not to. Sookie closed her eyes and waited for the pain to follow. The initial puncture was painful, yet fast. Sookie let out a slight moan as the pain shocked her and wrapped her arms around Eric, gripping onto his shoulders. It was a strange sort of pain; one that hurt yet you enjoyed it and Sookie found herself to enjoy it way more then she should.

"As you wish," he said softly, as he nodded his head, though he didn't drop her gaze. With any luck, she might change her mind. Human women were good for that, and she hadn't exactly outright refused him.

That was progress in his mind. She would be his eventually, as he'd always known.

Eric could feel her muscles tense beneath his hands, though she pulled herself against him with a gasp instead of away. His lips smirked against her throat as he exhaled against her skin, his tongue pressing up against her artery as he took a pull from the vein.

Her blood was exquisite as always, and he savored the taste before he swallowed, relishing the way it burned down his throat. A low moan rumbles in his chest as the vampire took another sip, enough to quench the last of the burning in the back of his throat. Having satisfied himself, Eric retracted his fangs halfway, pricking the tip of his tongue with the end of one, and running the blood that beaded there along the puncture wounds, speeding up the healing process and causing them to close.

Eric let out a contended sigh before he pulled away, giving her space she likely needed. "That's how it's supposed to be," he murmured as he thought back to the last time he fed from her. Russell had screwed that up in a big way. He remembered the look on her face when he'd brushed her cheek in apology for what he needed to do, and it seemed she might have forgiven him.

She was almost surprised that it was over so soon, why did she want it to last longer? What was wrong with her?!

Sookie moved over a bit and brought her hand to her neck; she could feel that the wound was healing. "That was..." she paused for a moment and tried to find the right words, but that proved harder then she imagined. What came out wasn’t exactly what she had hoped for. "Sort’ve nice," she glanced down then shook her head. "I mean, not nice as in nice, but not bad. I’m making no sense right now," she smiled bashfully. "Think I’m just a bit dizzy from the blood loss." That’s what she would try to write it off as.

She was surprised at how gentle he was about it, she always thought of him to be more viscous then that. Of course the other times weren’t the best examples to fall back on. "Thank you, Eric," she reached out for his hand, "for being so good about it." There was more trust building up for the vampire then she thought possible. "You’re not exactly the creature I once thought you were."

Eric found himself chuckling at her response. "Let's just say I'm talented at what I do and leave it at that, hm?" He was teasing her, but the way she was stuttering over her words meant his mission was successfully accomplished.

He laughed a bit harder at the mention of dizziness. "Admit it, I'm just as intoxicating as you are. Blood loss, ha!" The Viking thought it strange to be sitting here, talking like this. Had they been back at Fangtasia, he would never had had to the time for ridiculous small talk.

"You are welcome," he replied, nodding. His eyes were noticeably bluer, and his appearance more alert already. "Though, perhaps someday soon you'll let me show you all the other things I'm good at." Eric gave her a wink and he rose gracefully from the bed. "Ah, and let's keep this little arrangement a secret from now. At least this bit of it. Rose is trying to gain access to that other source for me, and I'm sure you would rather truly decide if you would like to continue this instead of simply feeling obligated."

These niceties weren't something he was used to asking for. Taking what he wanted was what he was good at, but that approach hadn't worked with Sookie. So far, this was working much better. He often forgot how useful reverse psychology could be.

"No, Eric," she gave him a pointed look, but couldn’t help smile a bit. "I will not admit any such thing." There was something nice about having this sort of unexpected moment with Eric.

"I don’t think so, think that’s as much as you’ll get to show me." Sookie watched him as he stood up from the bed and tried to hold back her smile from his last comment. She nodded her head, "yea, it’s not like I can have you drinking from me everyday. Besides, people just don’t seem to look too highly upon that, might make those hunters get the wrong impression." She could remember the way everyone flipped over her first set of bite marks.

"I did deicide. I could’ve let you starve, you seemed like you could go longer, maybe long enough for that other source. I didn’t feel obligated at all," in fact I rather quite enjoyed it, but Sookie would not say that part out loud. "When are you suppose to talk to her again?"

"I should have guessed," Eric retorted, "though I don't need the bond to know you liked it, just as I predicted." He smirked at her, bending at the waist to peer down at her. "That little sigh was quite cute." He was deliberately teasing now, hoping that that blush would creep back up into her cheeks again.

Ah, what he wouldn't give for the bond he had lost, to know that she was betraying what her body was telling her instead of just suspecting. Eric was used to women begging for his favor, not pretend that they didn't want to make use of his 'assets.' Still, it would make the prize all that much sweeter when he finally got a taste.

"A sip or two once a week is plenty," he said. "It will keep me strong, and your body won't even notice that an amount like that is missing." Eric wasn't going to pretend that he would turn down a chance to taste her at any opportunity, but he knew not to overindulge.

"I could go without feeding for several months under the worst of circumstances before movement would become difficult," he explained, his hand reaching up to brush an errant strand of blonde hair from her eyes. "But my speed, strength, and temperament would begin to suffer before that point."

"She will contact me when she is ready. I do not want to rush this," he said. "Though I am guessing it will likely be in the next few days." It wasn't as if Rose hadn't had time already, and was just waiting for the right opportunity.

Sookie just glared at him and tried to hold back the blush that wanted to cross her face again. She crossed her arms, "who said I liked it?"

"That’s not that much, you sure that’s enough? Bill always seemed like he needed more. Though, I suppose he just wanted more," she sighed. She tensed up when his hand brushed away some of her hair. "Just want to make sure you’re okay while we’re here and don’t want to be worryin’ bout you feeding on someone, especially in a place that has hunters. Don’t really know who you can trust." That was good to know that he could last so long without the blood if he had to.

"Makes sense, might be tricky with her hunter friend. Hopefully he won’t decide to come down and hunt you and will actually listen. Never know with people."

Eric began to grin as she tried to defy her body, but her cheek turned a delicious pink color. "I did," he quipped back. "Now, now, Sookie. Don't deny it. Lies don't suit you."

He bent at the waist again as he peered down at her, his eyebrow cocked suggestively. "That's all I need, yes. I told you, Bill seems old to you because you're human. Compared to me, he's just a child." Eric felt his fangs partially descend. "If you were to offer more, however, I wouldn't say no."

For a moment he'd thought she was going to say that she didn't worry about 'him,' and he found himself disappointed when she didn't. Instead, she was worried that he would slip up and feed on someone else. Again, he wished the bond was still in place. Sookie could often say something and mean something else entirely different.

"Exactly," he said, nodding once. "That is why you shouldn't come with me. Even if the danger is slight, keeping you safe is more important." Though why that was the case, he didn't know.

Sookie did not like the fact that he was calling her out on that in the least bit. "I can deny it all I want," she huffed.

"Suppose I'll stick with older vampires for now," she slightly joked. "And, I'm sure you wouldn’t, bet you'd just love to drink as much of me as you could." She inched forward a bit. Now she was just being mean to him, almost as if she wanted to tease him. "Too bad you won't be able to."

Sookie quickly stood up with anger and looked him in the eyes. "Ain't no way in hell you're going without me." The fact that he would even suggest that made her blood boil. "You're the one we've got to worry bout keeping safe. Besides, you need me, I'll be able to hear their thoughts and figure out if they're lying or not." Even if she couldn’t read their thoughts, she’d still go with him. The chance of something happening was too great and there was no way she’d be able to just sit in her room and wait.

"You can deny it all you like," he replied, acting nonchalant. "That still doesn't make it not true." Sookie could be so stubborn, but on the occasion that it wasn't directed at him, he rather quite liked that quality.

"Good idea," he said, his voice husky as she leaned towards him just enough to tease. How very enticing of her. She was lucky that he was good at restraint. "Now you're just being cruel."

Her angry reaction had been somewhat expected - Sookie never liked to be left behind. Eric thought she sometimes forgot how vulnerable she was. How human she was. Despite her fairy ancestry, she was not exactly unbreakable. "It is a bad idea," he urged, clenching his teeth. "If he sees me as a threat, there's no guarantee he won't go after you as well. He could consider you an accomplice."

"Maybe I am,” she smirked.

"It's a very good idea," Sookie stated as if it was a fact. She wasn’t going to let Eric tell her what was and wasn’t a good idea. "If he see's you as a threat I'll know before anything can happen and we can stop him. Besides, having a human on your side might show him you're ok to trust." There was no way he was going to talk her out of this, that was for sure.

"You know I'll go no matter what you say, even if I have to track you down myself." Sookie glared up at him with determination. "Let's make this easy on both of us."

Eric growled low in his throat as they stared each other down, a minor battle of wills. Unfortunately, Sookie had a point. If either of the humans were planning something, she would know before he would. Probably. "That's if you can hear them as well as you could before arriving here," he said, more to himself than to her.

He could say no, but it would be a moot point. It wasn't as if he could arrange this meeting somewhere where she couldn't find them. The mansion may be large, but it was still only one building.

"Fine," he said, gritting his teeth. "But you will stay behind me and not make any unnecessary remarks."

She hated the fact that she didn't really know if her powers would work here. She hoped that on the off chance it was just something that happened to Eric's powers and that her's would be ok. "Even if they aren’t totally there, still better then nothing. You said yours still work just not fully." And, with that Sookie made her case. Not that she still needed to, but she wanted to.

"Fine." She was just glad that she won this battle, but she wasn't agreeing to anything. Who knew what would happen and be said. Sookie wasn't exactly the best at keeping her mouth shut if she heard something that wasn't to her liking.

Eric nodded once, still angry that she'd managed to coerce him yet again. Any other woman he would have been able to say no to, and she would have listened. And if they hadn't listened, then he could have simply compelled them to his wishes. Sookie was apparently immune to both, not that he would use that ability on her. She was too valuable to risk her mind like that.

He turned toward the door, glancing back at her over his shoulder. "If you need me, my room is on the fifth floor. Room 505. If you get into trouble, just yell. I will come for you." Eric wished she'd agreed to take his blood, but he wouldn't coerce her into that again, at least for now. He wanted her to have it willingly, though if it became increasingly necessary, he would insist until she agreed.
