Of all the possible things he could have imagined in this moment, this was the furthest down on the list of what he had expected. Eric was used to her anger, her irritation, and her frustration with him. It was true that, in the beginning, he had manipulated her, played games with her, even used her to a point. He lived in a different world than her, and he probably deserved everything she'd thrown at him in the past.

Somehow, she never failed to surprise him.

He hadn't wanted to be the one to tell her about Bill's faults, even if it felt good to be the one who was right. He'd wanted Compton to admit to them himself, for the terrible truth to come from him, for Sookie to come to him on her own accord. It just hadn't been happening quickly enough for his liking, and Bill was going to weasel around for as long as possible.

What would happen now, with Bill out of the way? Did Eric even have time to worry about it now? Why the hell was he worrying at all?

Eric closed the space between them quickly after he realized she wasn't going to scream at him, or run, or something else equally dramatic. "What happened?" he asked, peering down at her. "Why are you here?"
